Sherrie Harmon

3-4 Teacher

Years at NGFS: 11

Education: B.A. from Augustana College, Rock Island, IL

Sherrie, who teaches in Horizon, initially joined the NGFS community as a parent in 2000. She was drawn to the school because of the way differences and diversity are celebrated.

Before coming to NGFS as a faculty member, Sherrie worked for seven years in children’s and youth ministry at First Lutheran Church and Christ Lutheran Church. She also spent two years as a three-year-old teacher at The Childhood Enrichment Center.

Sherrie enjoys working at NGFS because of the child-centered classrooms. She says, “I love working with students who are academically, socially, and spiritually growing together.” This year she is excited about the energy of the new team in Horizon and looks forward to working with creative colleagues and being supported by great families.

In her spare time Sherrie enjoys traveling, playing board and card games, and spending time with her husband and two daughters. In the summer of 2016, her whole family traveled to Nicaragua to build a Habitat for Humanity House. Both of Sherrie’s daughters are NGFS alumni; Sarah is currently attending grad school in Atlanta and Rachel is heading to her second year of college at Roanoke.

Little known facts: Sherrie lived in the Middle East while in high school and worked in advertising right out of college!
